About the event
Teaching provision is generous and fair with a minimum of three solo lessons and three chamber music coaching sessions. In addition there are string orchestra projects, open piano classes and Lecture Recitals. There are also daily concerts and masterclasses with staff and students, visiting artists, and groups mixing staff and students.
The course is flexible and can allow students in pre-formed groups to focus entirely on chamber music or a student to work exclusively on solo repertoire. Other chamber groups are formed before the course to allow students time to prepare parts, and younger pianists attending their first-ever course may prepare a piano duet movement. Groups and partnerships can evolve flexibly during the week and the coaching timetable is arranged in two-day cycles by mutual consent. In the evening there is often the opportunity to read through chamber music informally.
Family members are invited to a closing concert on the final morning. Everyone should, where possible, arrive during the afternoon of Monday the 17th of July and depart after lunch on Monday the 24th of July. The school provide full board and bedding, but please bring a towel.
Over the years social activities have included table tennis tournaments, swimming, model helicopter displays, ceilidhs, tai chi and a cabaret evening.
